Safety Resources

Lovington Municipal Schools is deeply committed to creating a safe and secure learning environment through a comprehensive, multi-layered approach to school safety. At the core of this effort is the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), a nationally recognized emergency response system that uses clear, consistent directives—Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. These protocols are regularly practiced across all campuses to ensure students and staff are well-prepared.

The district works in close partnership with local law enforcement, using shared language and coordinated planning to ensure effective responses during emergency situations. To further enhance preparedness, the School Safety Team meets monthly with emergency management and law enforcement agencies to review, update, and strengthen safety procedures.

This page provides a range of resources for students, families, and staff—including the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System, which allows students to confidentially report concerns such as bullying, threats, or mental health needs. Together with routine safety drills, transparent communication via ParentSquare, and proactive planning, these layers reflect the district’s strong and ongoing commitment to the safety and well-being of every student.

SRP Protocols

  • Lockdown
“Locks, Lights, Out of Sight” Procedure: Move away from sight, maintain silence, lock door and do not open it.
  • Hold
“In Your Classroom or Area” Procedure: Clear the hallways, continue instruction, and remain in the classroom until cleared from hold.
  • Secure
“Get Inside. lock outside doors” Procedure: Return to inside of building, clear hallways, stay in locked classroom and do business as usual
  • Shelter
“State Hazard and Safety Strategy” Hazards may include: Weather, Hazmat, Earthquake or Fire Procedures depend on the Hazard and may include: evacuation, sealing the room, moving to an appropriate location within the facility, or seeking cover.
  • Evacuate
"To specified location" Procedure: Leave stuff behind, follow instructions, and in some cases prepare for reunification.
