Wildcat Athletics

""

Hello Wildcat Nation,

As a district, we love to see the energy and enthusiasm our Wildcat fans bring to Wildcat athletics through the lens of competing with class and sportsmanlike behavior. On two occasions, the Officials have asked the administrators on duty to stop fans from using artificial noisemakers during games and given a noisemaker warning to the scores table.

Lovington Schools reached out to our South Region Official Assigner for clarification on artificial noisemakers. Based on the response, we would like to share his clarification for the use of artificial noisemakers at basketball games.

According to the NMAA Basketball bylaws 7:13.4. F: Use of Noisemakers- Noisemakers are permitted as long as they do not simulate a whistle or horn. Tournament administrators and/or game officials have final jurisdiction over what is or is not allowed.

If an Official feels the use of artificial noisemakers is unsportsmanlike, a violation may be warranted. The violation could result in a free throw and up to technical fouls imposed on the offending team after the initial warning or violation.

We believe Wildcat fans would never want to jeopardize the hard work of our athletes by creating a situation that could impose fouls and negatively impact the outcome of a game. As Wildcat supporters, please join us in promoting an environment that positively impacts our athletes, and remember you may be asked to put your noisemakers away.

Sincerely,

Lovington Municipal Schools
